Wouter Venema - Time Bombs (finishes this Saturday 4 March at 17.00, afterwards we change the installation for Museumnacht!)
Time Bombs is an exhibition inspired by a journey to the Erg Chebbi desert in Morocco. Each work in the exhibition relates in a certain way to photography and the idea of the time bomb.
In the desert landscape I see various themes and subjects which I have researched over the past four years, including light, movement, displacement and (dis)orientation.
I’ve started to view the empty landscape as an analogy for the unexposed film: the silver sand as film grains in the emulsion.
Time Bombs refers to the moment captured, to be expressed in a later moment (photography), objects that survive us and convey us, rituals that try to restrain the future, a form of oppression no longer tolerated, or a mirage which eventually does not exist.
